Eulalia Piñero Gil has recently published a new edition on Charlotte Perkins Gilman's works titled Si yo fuera un hombre y otros relatos. In this valued volume, doctor Piñero brings to the forefront both well-known texts like "The Yellow Wallpaper" and, so far untranslated, short stories like "The Rocking Chair".
The blurb reads as follows:
La vida de Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935) estuvo marcada por su incesante y polifacética actividad, pues además de escritora fue conferenciante, activista, diseñadora y socióloga. Desde este caleidoscópico quehacer social, se volcó especialmente en el sufragismo y la defensa de los derechos de las mujeres y los niños, con los que mantuvo un férreo compromiso a lo largo de toda su vida. Entre sus obras, destacan, además de sus relatos cortos, en los que plantea una redefinición de la masculinidad, la novela pionera del feminismo utópico Herland, traducida al español como El país de las mujeres. Esta edición anotada reúne diecisiete de sus mejores relatos. Se incluyen, además de "Si yo fuera un hombre", algunos ya bien conocidos en España, como "El papel pintado amarillo" o "La glicinia gigante", pero también otros presentados por primera vez, como "La mecedora", "Lo inesperado", "Si yo fuera una mujer", "Una criatura angelical extinta" o "Sé sabia".

EAAS 36th Biennial Conference "Visions of Freedom"
Six of our team members took part in the 36th Biennial Conference of EAAS held at the University of Bologna from September 1st to September 4th. There, a panel on motherhood studies was presented where diverse mothering structures and maternal figures were analyzed. The proposals offered by our researchers provided those attending with an intersectional view of how maternal practices have been carried out in different centuries, cultures and communities.

"Discourses on Motherhood" International Conference
Held at the University of London and organized by the London Centre of Interdisciplinary Research, the International Conference "Discourses on Motherhood" represents one of the most important matrifocal events of the year. This conference is inagurated this year with a plenary talk by Andrea O'Reilly, considered one of the founding scholars of mothering theories, and two members of MIRCAALT will be contributing to this matri-oriented agenda by stressing literature's importance in motherhood studies.

This year's Félix Martín Seminar will take place at Universidad Complutense where Miguel Ángel Tamargo, one of our young scholars, will take part in the “Spatiality & Identity" panel. His paper titled “Queering the Map: Crossing and Blurring the Borders of Identity, Space and Time in the 21st Century Queer American Novel” will contribute to this young scholars seminar organized by SAAS by offering a summary of his dissertation which, as the title evidences, deals with queer theory, identity, space and borders in contemporary North-American novels.

QUEER JOURNEYS IN NORTH AMERICAN LITERATURE AND CULTURE
Miguel Ángel Tamargo, one of our young researchers is participating in "Queer Journeys in North American Literature and Culture," a conference held at the University of Innsbruck during the 14th and 15th of November 2025. There he will be presenting his paper "Queer Road Trips: Re-Mapping Narratives in Nevada and The Lauras" where he will discuss the central issues around which his doctoral thesis develops.

MILA'S FIRST EVENT
On the 11th of November, the MILA Project “Maternidades Interseccionales: Narrativas Matrifocales y Nuevas Formas de Familia en la Literatura Anglófona” con nº PID 2024-160004OB-I00, whose activity is directly connected with the MIRCAALT members, will welcome Dr. Mercedes Carbayo Abengozar (Maynooth University/National University of Ireland). Her keynote titled "Contra el mandato maternal: una novela gráfica de resistencia: "No quiero ser mamá," Irene Olmo, 2020" will deal with a matrifocal reading of the text that will enable productive discussions regarding resisting mothering formats.

CENTENARIO DE EL GRAN GATSBY Y MANHATTAN TRANSFER
Este 27 de octubre miembros de grupo MIRCAALT formarán parte del Acto Conmemoratorio por el centenario de El gran Gatsby y Manhattan Transfer celebrado en la Salón de Actos de la Facultad de Filosofía Y Letras de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid a partir de las 13 del mediodía. El acto constará de una mesa redonda y un posterior recital donde se tratará de rendir homenaje a estas obras literarias desde distintas disciplinas.

La mesa redonda del acto contará con tres profesoras, Rosa Bautista Cordero, Laura Arce Álvarez y Eulalia Piñero Gil, quienes comentarán El Gran Gatsby de Scott Fitzgerald y Manhattan Transfer de John Dos Passos abordando temas relevantes como la crisis del sueño americano, Nueva York, la crisis ecológica, la figura del antihéroe norteamericano, la representación de la mujer y las adaptaciones cinematográficas.

EL GRAN RECITAL
El Grupo de Innovación Docente INME-3 (“Innovación Metodológica para la Enseñanza de la Literatura y Cultura, la Lingüística y la Lengua”) se suma a este homenaje con la celebración de este recital a cargo de Eva Estebas y la pianista Hye Ryun Jung y consistente en la lectura dramatizada de las escenas más representativas de El gran Gatsby. Las escenas recogidas en este recital están ordenadas de tal manera que componen una versión abreviada de la novela y aparecen acompañadas de canciones que ya bien aparecen explícitamente mencionadas en la novela o son consideradas como representativas de los "Felices años 20".

What challenges face a translator working on dramatic texts into Spanish? This translation workshop will address the challenges faced by translators when working on translations of dramatic texts into Spanish. As a departure point, the workshop will use It will focus on Marina Carr’s play By the Bog of Cats (1998) (scene one of act one).

Breaking Cultural and Gender Barriers: A Transcultural and Transnational Approach to Translation in Kate Chopin’s The Awakening

In this lecture, Eulalia Piñero Gil will reflect on the challenges the literary translator faces and how the translation process is based on a “transformance approach” that considers translation as an intentional act that represents and performs a text into a new cultural space for a new readership and will use The Awakening by Kate Chopin to do so.
